Canadian job interview questions guide for assessing company culture
In an interview, it’s important to remember that while the company is evaluating you, you’re also evaluating them. In addition to asking about the role and company goals, it’s valuable to ask questions that help you learn about company culture — to avoid potential value clashes and ensure the work environment aligns with your personal and professional goals.
Here are some questions from Indeed Canada to help guide your conversation.
1. How does the team handle disagreements?
✅ Open communication, respectful discussions, and managers mediate if needed.
🚩 Disagreements are avoided or decisions are made solely by management.
2. What was the last big achievement that the company or department celebrated?
✅ High performance is rewarded and achievements are celebrated.
🚩 There were no recent celebrations, and the focus is solely on tasks.
3. What was the company’s biggest challenge, and what did it teach you?
✅ Challenges lead to growth and improved processes.
🚩 Blames individuals for failures or avoids learning from challenges.
4. How does the company gather and respond to employee feedback?
✅ Regular surveys/check-ins, and visible actions based on feedback.
🚩 No formal feedback process, limited response or action.
