Communication Tips for an Impactful Video CV

“Whether you’re selling, interviewing, or just representing yourself in the marketplace, offer people something they can’t refuse: a specific story that lends power to your words.”

PATH TO CAREER SUCCESS
Communication Tips for a Stand-Out Video CV

1) Know Your Audience 🤝👥
Tailor your video CV to address employer needs and interests. Mainly, think to yourself: “What problem am I trying to solve for them?”

2) Follow a Logical Structure 🧠 📊
Frame your video CV with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.

Introduction: Introduce yourself, your role, and years of experience, then add a captivating and compelling hook like “Are you looking for someone who delivers results? Let me demonstrate how I’ve achieved that…”

Sections: Organize your video into three sections: past, present, and future. Highlight milestones, achievements, or skills in each.

Subsections: Maintain clarity with two to three key points per section.

Conclusion: Reiterate your hook (““As I mentioned at the start, I am person who drives results.”) and provide a call to action such as “I look forward to speaking with you about my work experience in further detail.”

3) Use Signposting and Transitional Phrases ➡️🔄
Guide your audience through your ideas using transitional phrases.

For Introduction and Outlining: "I'll begin by sharing my experiences from the past, followed by accomplishments in my current role, and conclude with my aspirations for the future."

For Transitioning Between Sections: "I’ll begin with my past experience.” “Moving on to my current role.” “Now, onto my future aspirations."

For Transitioning Between Subsections: "I’ve had three important roles at my company. First… Then… Now…"
